TEN THINGS A DJ Doesn’t Need To Hear

1. “Play something that has a beat we can dance to.”

Your DJ has more than one person in the audience…you may not like the song playing but it could very well be someone else’s favorite. Remember too, everything can be danced to.

2. “Can’t you play something with a beat?”

Every song that’s ever been played has a beat. Be specific and tell you DJ what kind of beat you want to hear.

3. “I don’t know the musician here or the name of the song, but it goes something like this.”

Singing isn’t necessary . The DJ’s eardrums get pounded all night long… They can do without a rendition of your song.

4."Everyone really wants to hear this song.”

What you’re saying here is that you’ve taken a poll of everyone in the auditorium and they’ve also elected you to be their spokes person. Not likely.

5. “Everyone will dance to this song.”
The DJ won’t. There goes that whole theory.

6.“I’ll get laid if you play this song.”

Playing your cards right means not settling for one night. Buy the whole album and get lucky one time for each song on both sides.

7. “Play the song I want to hear next.”

There’s only one person who gets to talk like that. They’re the ones handing out the money to the DJ at the end of the night.

8. “What kinds of music do you have?”

Why not just go and have another drink? That makes mores sense than trying to get the DJ to name all the songs he’s brought like you’re at a buffet.

9. “No one can dance to this.”

Some people actually say this with their backs to a packed dance floor. Even when only one person is dancing, that statement doesn’t make sense.

10. “Can you play the song soon? We’re leaving.”
This means that you’re leaving right after he plays the song you want to hear. It’s a bad move to tell a DJ this since they might wait until the very end to keep you around.
